Welcome to Real Talk on AI and I care with your host, Dr. Scott Morris. And I'm co host, Dr. Rehan Ahmed.
In each episode, we discuss current news, adding a little AI education, and debate innovative AI tools and topics that will change the industry. Well, so every week we talk about something basic science, basic knowledge about AI and how to fix I care tonight. Tonight, maybe I want to do something a little different. Instead, I'm going to talk about well, how do you create an avatar?
And you know, if you haven't done it, it's a very cool process. I mean, your first one may be very infancy type of stuff, but you got to jump in somewhere. And so I want to talk tonight a little bit like how do you create a basic avatar? And so I mean, well, first of all, why would you and you know, let's break it down to simple steps.
So why would you? I mean, maybe you're going to use it for social media instead of using your face. You're going to use your avatar or maybe it's not your avatar, but it's an avatar that you use as your space. Maybe it is gaming or an online profile or you know, there's a bajillion different ways you can use an avatar, depending on what you do.
And really it's, it's a lot easier than you think these days in terms of, and I'm going to give you a little step by step guide. So first of all, you need a kind of a place to create your avatar and there are numerous numerous different app based and web based type of avatar creators. I mean, you can start with something simple. I started three or four years ago, something called bitmoji and you know, bitmoji is a little cartoony, but it's a cool place to start and it teaches you the basics that you can do that are kind of your own personally moji type stuff.
There's ready player me and that really is a little bit more of a 3D avatar type of stuff and there's various platforms that works on you can do it in photo that's FOTOR or you can do it in canva. Now there's an online design that's now you're starting to get a little more fancy. And then the one I use right now is called design DZ I and E and that comes out of Synthesia that was Synthesia is kind of there was the original one and I love design you can make some cool things on it and get some very, very light like what we call anamorphic avatars mean what they look a lot like you but every can tell it's a cartoon and not really me. You know it looks close enough and you got to think about to it you want a free version like bitmoji or do you want a paid version and you know it depends on what you want to do any infant part of it when you're just learning how to do it use one of the free versions learn the basic tools sets.
And as you get better maybe like hey I'll upgrade you know we're all in a subscription service mentality world and you know most of these things are 399 a month they're 499 a month I mean heck you pay more to in a week to go to the star box. Yeah yeah yeah you know these things are not are not static at all it's not like it's funny because I did some research on this and I'll go on Reddit forums and thinking on you know which are the best ones and literally the it's like I don't know if you've collected baseball cards when you were younger and like you go to you know go to school you have like a new web the newest card and you guys all talk and you sort of trade cards kind of reminded me of that like your direct forms are all from within the past 24 hours things are changing left and right so the one you mentioned there's new ones I've tried out to. So yeah I think Google searches ask me chat GPT or Gemini itself and then ask in France that's that's that's but it changes all the time so the time that we plug each other they come out with new everyone's racing and so yeah that's it's really it's really a fascinating area. Yeah I think you know you get to start with different kinds like I was helping you get to start with your base you know maybe it's maybe use one of their templates maybe use the pre designed type of avatar and you just kind of customize it maybe even take a selfie like some of them.
Use you take a picture of selfie and it will convert the I will convert into a kind of the base for sure you yourself and then you get to change change your shape your head where your eyes are I mean you know do I have brown eyes you know what do I look like a blue eyes it's not good by the way. You know so it was my nose too big is it too small what do I do with my ears can I shrink on me on some pretty soon I'm like man I need to send this to my cosmetic surgeon I need to look like my avatar instead of my avatar look like me but you know so you got to play around with some of the options and it's kind of fun I mean it can be you know you get to do your hair you know my avatar it's I actually have dark hair again instead of gray hair and it's longer and you know there's more of it when I was younger you know so you do hair style you can change colors you can put glasses on you can put colors. What was on you can there's just so many different ways you can customize it can make it look like a 10 make it look like a don't have a 10 but freckles on my face. You know I think you there is no limit to the creativity and I just say when you get ready to create an ever just start somewhere start with bitmogy.
Do it it's fun it's cool you kind of get that you know the concerns and scares on goal that's crazy looking avatar and then you adapted adopted and then pretty soon you're like hey I want to make a more face you know a more realistic one like like ran sad I mean in a year the programs I just mentioned will be out of date and there'll be new things out there and so just jump in that's my big thing jump in try some of the sites we mentioned and we'll go from there. Yeah, I think the title of this episode are the purposes what are the what are the tools that scot and I have been using recently that we really like just maybe a couple of them you know two or three that we really like that we use that the other ones that we tell our friends about and so the two that I use. In a way I'm kind of using a tried and true one and we've talked about a lot but it's a feature of it it's the deep research mode of chat you be in all of the elements forward to have this I do think and talking to other people that chat you be tease for a lot of deep research is very very good and I'll tell you how I use it so I was I was asked. And I want to do a little bit of research I really a deep dive on a certain type of pharmaceutical drug I wanted to know all of its submission history I want to know its indication not just in the US but also in the European EMA and and I wanted a very well researched report at the end and so I did exactly that and that's where I asked Chad she could do and there's all sorts of prompt engineering that you can do it's I highly.
I really recommend people to learn about that there's a lot of resources one of the great techniques I always use is I designed I I prompt for my audience so it'll be and it's typically a high level so I'll say imagine you are as imagine you are a FDA regular imagine you're a seasoned professional ophthalmologist are optometrist looking at exactly what you're looking at so it knows the level is correct and then it asks you a number of questions so I'm going to ask you a question. So on this topic I'll say so do you want to focus on these countries or those countries you want which language do you want what years of citation do you want this from. How do you want your citation presented you want to you know in line or do you want some end notes or footnotes at the end and then it presented this you know a really nice first graph that's about 10 to 15 pages it took about 25 to 30 minutes and the coolest thing was that while I was working on on the right side of my screen I could see its chain of its chain of thought. It's a reasoning it would tell me what it's reading and say hey there's something really interesting I'm going to explore this article further this publication further and go down and look check these references out this also may be interesting to you.
And this is I mean we are still early stage of this but this is how I think the tech AI agent really will start doing research for you and synthesizing information for you that's so that's one I highly recommend it's it's available at chat TFT you just have to put the deep research. So button at the bottom when you when you submit your prompt to either recommend our listeners just try that out and see what see what they can do I've used it all the time and I find it really really helpful. It sounds really cool I haven't used that one after you give it you know but in our pre meeting I got really excited wrote that down like man I got to use that tonight because I'm working on a project that it'd be really nice to have somebody just summarize all that for me so that's really cool. I really and you know so Rayon and I've talked about this in some of our other conversations is that you know you kind of start to pick something I used to be a chat GPT guy and I used claw and I used Grock and I was using a bunch of stuff and now I've kind of just pretty much all Gemini 2.5 pro it has become kind of my my assistant for pretty much everything I do and I guess like Brown said you know he's become a chat GPs find all the do a secret of it I'm kind of in Gemini.
I think everybody's going to choose one just like you probably choose a browser right you're either an internet guy or either in Windows guy or you're a Google guy or gal or you're a you know one of the other ones that are out there being you know I think we're all starting to get into hey this one really works for us and we can get. I know you're doing things being that's an interesting reference that I've got that yeah yeah I mean so it's yeah yeah I don't know so it's that's one of the things that you so I'm a big fan of that they have a lot of new tools. They have a lot of new tools coming out as well so I and I like the chain of thought they have chain of thought thing like ran was to say it and it's really interested in a watch how the A.I. is thinking used to be a big black box we'd ask a prompt and he just never know what's going to happen and they come out with an answer now you can actually watch it think and it really helps you with prompt generation going oh well if I change the way I asked this it's going to go look for this so we're learning how to help it learn to teach us you know so I think it's fascinating and the other thing I do the other big one that I use you know in fact we're recording it now I literally since I got on this I have used it for every meeting every conversation I've had is something called fireflies and so fireflies has an agent called Fred Fred's my buddy he's on pretty much every conversation I have and the fireflies is the like your personal assistant who takes notes and keeps and tells you what task you have to do and what task other people have to do gives you a summary and like Ray and I said I think one of these days we're going to take all of these transcripts and we're going to drop it in something like Gemini and said hey review the last 500 conversations I've had and give me a summary of what are the coolest tools of 2025 and it's going to just spit it out right versus us trying to remember what conversation we had in may of 2020 Fred I mean the way you said Fred and I are online already when you are that's how you texted me right now I like you you've totally personified this is my friend is just these the best personal assistant I've ever had no offense to my other personal assistants but I mean Fred's Fred's rock star makes my life so much easier more importantly for you reminds me every time I forget that I said I was going to do something I get a task and Fred's like did you do that?
I did do this. No I didn't do this. But I'm going to do the negative externalities of some of this stuff and I'll tell you like in this kind of relates to the Ray band met us which I love but then you know when the camera is on and pointing out word how do other people feel so I was a meeting actually yesterday and someone and I was running the meeting and we're talking about stuff so I thought you know somewhat confident but we didn't have an in D.A. in place and we're just going to end to some conversations and they invited their Fred it was a different company but I'm not sure if I'm going to do it.
It was a different company but and I kicked that kick that AI agent out and I and you know it was one of those things I think I you know I'm not super comfortable having I think there's yeah I think there's situation which would be recording it sort of seriously on your phone of course I mean everyone to do that but I'm not a fan of that I mean of that particular instance and so I think there's going to be a lot of you know as we start with these technologies a lot of this is going to be feeling feeling these technologies out and so I think it's going to be a personal trust issue like you know right right you and I become really good friends of the last year and you know I mean I trust you if I say hey don't say this you're not going to save it and I know that but I agree with you there's certain times that I'm like somebody recording this and you know you if you hear me say Fred catch this you know that I'm recording right so I think there's there's some trust issues they're going to have to be overcome there's places that maybe we're not going to be wanting to use those and I think someday they'll have a tool that says hey somebody else is recording this you know so we'll see what happens but those are some of our favorite tools you know I'm you know I I think play with them there's lots of space you can go on the LinkedIn you go on Facebook you can go on any of the socials and there's always some listing of hey here's the best AI tools and I say try them out you know they all have free versions and some of them you're going to become very acquainted with and go I like the way this layout and I like the way it thinks and it fits like me or other ones that I'm just like I don't work like that like I I mean I'll tell you and I just jumped on there's a thing called visual mind visual mind which is a graphic thing and I tried it and it though I'm a very visual person I used it and it's nothing against that because one of my other buddies he swears by this like he sends me everything in visual in this particular program I used to the free version I'm like I it just doesn't work for me yeah yeah so it's you got to just go out there and play it's a great way instead of like spending tons of times on the socials chatting about what somebody went to high school with 30 years ago was doing maybe jump on here and try something fun yeah that's good you've been listening to real talk an AI and I care your weekly podcast to keep you informed about AI technologies revolutionizing I care
